This is the first time I’ve checked out your entire website even though I have read and enjoyed many of your blogs. It is well done and very interesting to peruse through. In an earlier blog, you mentioned hooking up with a fellow blogger who was a big fan of Cal Ripken Jr and tied his consecutive game record with consecutive blogs. I’m going to try to find a shot of Cal Ripkin Jr to include with my next batch of Sports photos on 5secondsmiles.com. Just an FYI-my latest blog, Thrifty, Frugal, or Fast and Loose, will now respond if you go to my site and click on it. It didn’t work last week when emails went out.

I will check out your sports blog Nancy. I’m pretty much a sportsaholic because I like the spirit of competition. I was only an average athlete, but I’m fascinated by those who play professional sports. I pull for those athletes who give back in some way rather than those who simply acquire more expensive toys. I tend to root for teams based on players I like rather than geography the way most people do, so it’s hard for people to understand my favorite teams.
My wife and son are big NASCAR fans, but that is one sport I don’t follow. I went with my son to Sonoma this past weekend because she couldn’t make it. It took our son playing and coaching college football for my wife to learn the game. I find it hysterical when I come in from doing chores and find her watching some random football game when she had no interest in it for the longest time.

It has to be exciting rooting for the college football team your son coaches, especially if you’ve played it. Your wife must just go crazy with excitement now that she follows football. Nascar is a whole other breed of mechanical pumas zooming around a track with phenomenal athlete drivers. But baseball is tops.

Thank you, Pete, but I do not wish to mislead anyone. The Gravatar image is that of my father who did serve in WWII with the 11th Airborne Division. My site is dedicated to him and his unit.

Thanks so much, Janie. I feel like that guy who is passing on the Olympic torch to someone else. Teachers adapt to just about any situation. Thank goodness that technology has evolved to the point that lessons can be taught remotely.

Nice to meet you, Marian. Teaching was a huge part of my life for so long, but I am transitioning into writing. One of the people in my writer’s critique group is my former principal, Nancy, who is one of my role models. My teaching family is so important to me that I organize a luncheon for my fellow retirees once a month. While much of the talk centers around someone’s latest trip or new grandchild, someone will predictably have news about a former student, which gets us all laughing and reminiscing.
I’ve been blogging for less than a year—Sally is the best. I see a commonality between education and writing in that so many people are supportive of one another. I’ve seen your book featured on the Smorgasbord, and it sounds fascinating. I will pick it up at some point soon. I pictured retirement as a period when there would be all this free time, but nothing could be further from that assumption.
